Whilst ambulance staff dealt with a minor collision on one side of the M42, another more serious crash happened on the northbound carriageway, which left four people needing hospital treatment.

West Midlands Ambulance Service had initially sent an ambulance to a two vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway of the M42 just after 1.30pm. As the crew cleared from that case, they were made aware of a second crash on the opposite northbound carriageway by passing drivers.

The collision involved a HGV, three vans and a car. The vehicles involved all sustained significant damage.

Four ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and police and fire officers were sent to the scene between junctions 5 and 6.
