Conservative party conference takes place in Birmingham

The 2016 Conservative party conference will take place at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham today.

A large number of people are expected to turn out for the event which is due to run from the 2-5 October.

There are a number of road closures in place, with West Midlands Police saying they are working to ensure there is as little disruption as possible to local residents and businesses.

It is Theresa May's first annual conference as Prime Minister and leader of the party.
