Police in Hinckley have been working with Girl guiding groups to develop a new badge to raise awareness of Dementia. The idea followed a visit to the 7th Hinckley URC Brownies by officer Julie Hodgkinson for the presentation of the Brownie ‘Challenge’ badge the group had been working towards.

PCSO Hodgkinson had been working with a local dementia group and came up with the idea of developing a dementia awareness badge to help raise awareness of the illness with young people.

To obtain the award, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides and their leaders need to complete a number of challenges to test their memory and learn more about dementia and how it affects sufferers.

Carol Lynch Division Commissioner of Girl Guiding Hinckley said:

To help support the launch of the badge police managed to secure funding from Police Mutual who donated £500.
