Men sentenced over killing of Digbeth businessman Akhtar Javeed

Three members of a gang of robbers have been sentenced after a raid which saw Digbeth businessman Akhtar Javeed shot dead

Family man Mr Javeed was the owner of Digbeth business Direct Source 3 and was shot and killed on February 3.At a trial Suraj Mistry, 26, of Laundon Way, Leicester, was sentenced for Mr Javeed's manslaughter and being found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear, harm and violence.

Lemar Wali, 19, of Osmaston Park Road in Derby, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery.Sander Van Aalten, a former employee of Mr Javeed, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery. All were being sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court.In summing up the judge recounted:

Mistry was sentenced to 23 years for manslaughter, 20 years conspiracy to rob and eight years for possession of fire arms.
