The meteorological autumn begins today (September 1), but a band of warm air from the Continent is set to bring several weeks of unseasonably warm conditions over Birmingham and the Black Country.
The weather is set to turn wilder at the weekend with a few days of high winds and heavy rain before the unsettled spell gives way to the return of milder, brighter conditions.
The tail end of Hurricane Gaston, which whipped up winds of 90 mph off the US coast, could even brush past the UK bringing a brief period of unsettled weather before calmer conditions takeover.

Long-term predictions for the month forecast spells of warm sunshine and fine weather, with the chance of the odd thunderstorm, as a band of Mediterranean-style conditions sweep across the UK.
