Controversial columnist, broadcaster and commentator Katie Hopkins has again caused another stir on social media site Twitter by asking a major bookmaker if they were taking bets on whether a child could die on Alton Tower's Smiler rollercoaster .

The ride was temporarily stopped today after a technical issue, leaving passengers apparently stranded on a vertical climb.

Five people were left seriously injured after a crash on the ride last year, two of them needing leg amputations.

Her comments have been met with a backlash from other twitter users.
