Traffic problems persist after new lights installed in Derby

Traffic problems continue in and around Derby's Kingsway retail park after new traffic lights were turned on a week and a half ago.

Vehicles were queuing all round the car park at Kingsway this afternoon, as well as the neighbouring Sainsbury's store.

One driver told ITV News they had been in the queue to get out for a number of hours.

Since traffic lights became operational at the Kingsway roundabout on Wednesday 13 July, many drivers have complained of the queues due to the timings on the them.

On Monday, Derby City Council issued a statement in which they said engineers had been monitoring the timings and would continue to do so until the end of next week.

The council also said a fully automated system would turn on last Wednesday, to control the lights based on demand.

Indeed, after last weekend's initial problems, during the past week, traffic was mostly able to move freely at the junction.

However, those problems were back today once again, with cars queuing all round the retail park, waiting to get out.

When staff from the Sainsbury's store began to marshall the traffic to control the flow, the situation improved, but there were still delays, with many drivers visibly angry.
