Jason Queally began cycle-racing at the age of 25 but in 1996 he was involved in a serious collision, where his chest cavity was pierced and he needed 70 stitches.

As a result, he committed himself to the time trial and team sprint competition, events with a reduced risk of crashing.

In Sydney 2000, Queally won Great Britain’s first gold medal of the games, clinching an Olympic record in the 1 kilometre time trial.

A long with teammates Sir Chris Hoy and Craig MacLean, Jason won Olympic silver in the team sprint to double his medal tally in Sydney.

Following his success at the Sydney Olympics, he received an MBE in the Queen's New Year's honours list.
