Police are hunting a thief who broke into the oldest Sikh Temple in Leicester to steal money along with several prized possessions.

Officers were called to the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Holy Bones in the early hours of Tuesday morning after Temple elders discovered they had been burgled.

The Gurdwara is the oldest in Leicester and one of the first built in the country. It's place in the British Sikh community is so important, that Queen Elizabeth II visited the temple in 2002 during her Golden Jubilee year.

It houses a museum dedicated to Sikhism, with some priceless treasures, luckily these remained untouched.

Leicestershire Police is currently investigating, and those who work in the temple believe the person responsible was someone who knew the building well.
