A decision is expected today on whether to open new inquests into the deaths of the 21 victims of the Birmingham pub bombings.

Senior Coroner for Birmingham and Solihull Louise Hunt will rule on whether the new inquests should be opened following several review hearings.

21 people died and 182 people were injured when two bombs exploded in pubs in the city on 21 November 1974.

The bombings are widely accepted to have been the work of the Provisional IRA.

An investigation by West Midlands Police into the bombings led to the Birmingham Six being wrongly jailed for the crime.

However, the men were freed in 1991 after their convictions were ruled unsafe by the Court of Appeal.
