Video: CCTV released after football match assault

West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses and the victim of an assault to come forward following an incident at a local football game.

Redditch United played Leamington FC at the Valley Stadium, Bromsgrove Road, Redditch in the Southern League Premier Play-off semi final on Wednesday 27 April, 2016.

During the game there were reports of some minor problems between Redditch and Leamington fans near to the Cedar Road stand resulting in security staff being employed in this area.

The game went to penalties which Leamington won and a small minority of Leamington fans invaded the pitch.

A local Redditch teenager is believed to have entered the playing field and punched a Leamington fan in the face and pushed him over. The offender has been interviewed by police and is assisting with investigations.

The victim left the field of play while police were dealing with this incident and has not come forward.

A police spokesperson said:

Police said there was a positive dialogue with both clubs in the build up to the game and they are thankful to the clubs for their support in the matter.
