Two taken to hospital after 'serious incident' at McDonalds

Two people had to be taken to hospital after a gas canister was let off inside a McDonalds restaurant.

Emergency services were at the scene for much of Monday night after the "serious incident" on Eccleshall Road in Stafford.

Twelve people were inside the restaurant when the gas canister was let off at around 8.30pm, Staffordshire Police said.

Officers found no evidence of any noxious substances, the force added.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman had been taken to hospital in Stoke-on-Trent suffering from respiratory irritation and abdominal pains.

Officers are keen to speak to three people seen leaving the restaurant shortly after the canister was released.
