The official 'launch' of Mansfield's new market is taking place today after opening to the public earlier on in the week.

The £100,000 project sees market stalls moved from Westgate onto the main Market Place and market days to run from Tuesday to Saturday every week.

However, the move is said to have angered many traders who feel they may lose out on relocating from their previous home on Westgate.

A council spokesperson told us:

"There has been a significant amount of discussion with both Westgate traders and Market Place traders as well as with groups including Town Centre Management, Mansfield BID, town centre retailers, and Mansfield 2020. These discussions have been considered and reviewed, and have resulted in the new centralised Market Place.

The move to the main Market Place will create a busier atmosphere where more people will be drawn in to shop, helping to make Mansfield Market a quality shopping experience.
