Video: Baby rhino is born at safari park
After a 16-month-long pregnancy, the first baby rhino in eleven years has been born at West Midland Safari Park.
First time mum, six-year-old Ailsa, gave birth to the new arrival on Good Friday, 25th March. He's the first baby rhino to be born at the tourist attraction since the baby’s dad Barney, who was born in 2005.
He needs feeding regularly throughout the day and will stay close by his mum's side for up to two years.
The southern white rhino is the most common of the rhino species, so a conservation success story, but rhinos still face a huge threat in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching.
