Moorways pool set to close to public in Derby

Moorways swimming pool in Derby is open to the public for the last time today after a campaign to keep it open to the city's residents failed.

From tonight, the public will not be able to access the facility, which will be only be used by a professional swimming club.

There had been a social media campaign to keep the pool open to everyone.

Derventio Excel swimming club will use the pool from the beginning of April while the Council continues to look for other clubs who could also make use of it.

Councillors have blamed the closure of the pool to the public on budget cuts and say the new arrangement could save thousands of pounds.
