Exclusive: Disabled pupil in hospital after pool incident
Three women who work at a special school in Leicester have been arrested on suspicion of neglect, after an eighteen year old pupil got into serious difficulty in the school swimming pool.
ITV News Central has learnt that the student is still in hospital seven weeks after the accident on 27th January at West Gate School on Glenfield Road.
He was initially taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, but was later transferred to Leicester General Hospital, where his condition is described as "stable".
West Gate School caters for around 200 pupils aged from 4-19 years who have a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
Leicestershire Police have said:
No-one from the school has been available for comment.
However, the Chair of Governors, Rev Canon Peter D. Taylor, told our correspondent Peter Bearne what action has been taken.
ITV Central has learnt that there are three investigations ongoing into what happened.
Apart from the police enquiry, Leicester City Council's Adult Safeguarding board is looking into the incident, as are the Health and Safety Executive.
The swimming pool is currently closed to school students, but remains in use by community groups.
