Jimmy Hill memorial service: The facts

A memorial service being held in remembrance of former Coventry City manager Jimmy Hill OBE, will take place later today at Coventry Cathedral.

Around 700 tickets for the event were made available to the general public and were all snapped up.

The service will honour City legend Hill, who guided the Sky Blues from the old Third division, to the top flight during the 1960's.

Where and when:

  • The service is being held at Coventry Cathedral, with doors set to open at 4:30pm.

  • The service is set to get underway at 5:30pm.

Speakers will be outside Coventry Cathedral to broadcast the event live for those that were unable to get tickets.

Who will attend:

  • Speakers will include members of Jimmy's family and famous names from the world of football

  • Those likely to attend will include people from Coventry City Football club, past and present

  • There will be musical contributions including a brass band

Attendance figures:

  • Around 700 tickets for the event were made available to the general public

  • Tickets were free and were restricted to a maximum of two per person

  • Coventry City Football Club sold out of their allocation

Dress code:

  • Those attending are asked to dress in sky blue

  • Jimmy was the figurehead of the 'Sky Blue Revolution', changing the club's colours, introducing the Sky Blue Song, and christening the nickname 'the Sky Blues'

Jimmy Hill died on 19 December last year after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and was buried on New Year’s Eve during a private family funeral in Sussex.
