Terry Wogan: Leicester university pays tribute to its 'distinguished honorary graduate'
The University of Leicester has been Sir Terry Wogan, who died today aged 77, as its 'distinguished honorary graduate'.
He received a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Leicester in 2010 and hosted several three-day TOGs (Terry’s Old Girls and Geezers) conventions at the university.
Professor Gordon Campbell, the University’s Public Orator, explained Sir Terry's Leicester connection at the time, referring to a running joke on Radio 2, with Sir Terry calling Leicester 'the lost city' - one that was mentioned in traffic reports because of maintenance work on the motorway, but was otherwise unknown.
