Nottingham gets £6.1m funding in electric car campaign
The Government has given Nottingham £6.1 million to encourage more people and businesses to use electric and hybrid vehicles.
The city is one of four nationally to share in a pot of money from the Department of Transport.
Nottingham City Council will use the cash to pay for more vehicle charging points. Electric vehicles would also be able to use some bus lanes. There are also plans for an East-West corridor across the city for electric/hybrid cars.
The Secretary of State for Transport and Derbyshire Dales MP Patrick McLoughlin launched today's green vehicle initiative.
He said registrations of ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) had doubled in the last year from 30,000 to 60,000.
Mr McLoughlin admitted that he didn't drive one himself but insisted he would consider buying one when the time came to change his car.
