Hundreds of children were sent home from school today after threats were made against their safety.

Police were called to four schools in Oldbury and Halesowen after phone calls making threats early this morning.

Children who couldn't get home were cared for in a local sports centre.

Bristnall Hall Academy said they had acted on the advice of the police.

It's principle, Vince Green, said the police had searched the school fully and that they hoped lessons would be back to normal tomorrow.

The calls made to three schools in Sandwell – Holly Lodge, Bristnall Hall and Oldbury Academy – and Leasowes School in Halesowen, were later found to be a hoax.

A police investigation is now underway to trace the caller.

Detectives believe no one was in any danger.
