After months of mild weather this week will be a shock to the system as temperatures plummet and typical January conditions roll our way.

Low Pressure is sitting over us at the moment, the isobars are packed and the wind is swinging in from a northwesterly direction. In other words that means it will be windy and cold!

MONDAYThe rest of today will be mostly dry but we can expect a few scattered showers that will be heavy. The wind is gradually increasing and it's cloudy everywhere with very limited bright spells. Temperatures today will reach 6c.

Tonight any showers will ease leaving us with a dry night, the exception to that is in Staffordshire where overnight showers will move in from the Cheshire Gap. Temperatures will fall to 2/3c tonight so the chance of a frost for all of us and icy conditions where we've seen the showers this afternoon.

TUESDAYTuesday will bring us a crisp start but it won't take long for heavy downpours to work across the East and West Midlands. It will be windy and cold with temperatures at 6c again.

It will gradually become drier on Tuesday night.

WENESDAYWednesday will be decent day for most, crisp and cold but sunny and bright with the risk of snow later in the day on the Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands and sleet at lower levels.

THURSDAYMore rain will arrive on Thursday, it will be wintry in some location so expect some sleet in the downpours. Overnight temperatures will dip to freezing or below.
