Man killed in pub attack was father of former Wolves striker Leon Clarke
A man who died after being attacked at a pub on New Year's Eve was the father of former Wolves striker Leon Clarke.
50-year-old Darrel Clarke died in hospital on Saturday after suffering a head injury in the beer garden of The Boat pub in Church Street, Wednesfield, at around 10.30pm.
West Midlands Police have launched a murder investigation.
In a statement, the player's current club, Bury FC, said it was aware of an "incident" that had brought about the death of his father.
Leon Clarke had two spells at Wolves and currently plays for Bury in League 1, where he has scored ten goals this season.He came through the Wolves Academy and scored 13 goals in 74 appearances between 2003 and 2007.
He returned to Wolves in 2013 following a £750,000 move from Coventry City, scoring three goals in 29 appearances.
A 22-year-old man arrested in connection with the attack on Mr Clarke was been bailed pending further enquiries.
