West Midlands Police have welcomed the findings of a new report into honour-based violence, which found the force was adequately prepared to tackle the issue.

The force was just one of three across the country to be deemed 'prepared' on all criteria in order to protect people from issues including female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage.

It was the only force where all staff interviewed as part of the report were confident in their awareness of the issues of honour-based violence, forced marriages and FGM.

Training days, posters, information shared electronically and a 'toolkit' of advice for staff were all used to brief them on how to deal with victims of these issues.

The force was also praised for using social media and campaigns to raise general awareness about the issues.
