Exclusive: Claims of major problems with new Personal Independence Payments process

By Wesley Smith

Citizens Advice Bureau workers have told ITV News Central that Personal Independence Payments have now become the biggest single issue they're called upon to help disabled people with.

The system began rolling out two years ago to replace Disability Living Allowance and covers the additional costs incurred for people who live with long-term illness or disability.

However as the old system is scrapped, people have to re-apply by filling out a 35-page form and Citizens Advice Bureau claim that's causing stress and anxiety.

They say the whole process takes too long with some appeals taking up to a year. The report was based on local case studies.
