Carer jailed for stealing £12K from pensioner
A carer from Castle Vale has been jailed for stealing nearly £12,000 from a vulnerable pensioner.
Doreen Humpage, 51, was jailed for fraud by false representation at Birmingham Crown Court earlier this month and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
Humpage regularly stole the pensioner's debit card and withdrew large amounts of cash.
The 87-year-old pensioner relied on Humpage for help with cooking and cleaning after a fall. She was unable to leave the house on her own.
Between April and May 2014 CCTV showed Humpage withdrawing cash from a cash machine on Tyburn Road. Investigations revealed that the withdrawals were taken from the pensioner's account without her consent.
The theft was discovered after police were alerted to Humpage and after researching her financial background found she was in thousands of pounds of debt.
