Toddler has narrow escape after bullet hits child car seat
An 18-month-old toddler had a narrow escape when gangs opened fire outside shops in Birmingham.
Four other people were seriously injured in the incident on 11 October.
The child had been strapped in a car seat when the child’s mother pulled up in her vehicle near Costcutter in Great Hampton Row, Hockley, on October 11.
Just one minute after she had walked away to the shops with her youngster, gunmen opened fire.
When she returned to her car the mum was horrified to discover one of the stray bullets had ripped through her car and become embedded in the child seat.
Police are still looking for the men responsible for the shooting, which left shop worker Amar Zamir, 27, among those injured.
Casings from the bullets were recovered and are being analysed by the National Ballistics Intelligence Service to see if there are links with any other gun crimes.
Costcutter store manager Naz Ali, 43, demanded extra police patrols.
He claimed this was the third time guns had been pulled outside his business in recent months.
Around 20 men reportedly ran into the store to avoid the shots outside at around 4.40pm.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene and it is understood three men, all shot in the leg, were treated there before being taken away by ambulance.
A fourth victim took himself to hospital.
