Profile: New Birmingham Labour Leader John Clancy
Labour councillor John Clancy has travelled from the relative obscurity of the back benches to one of the biggest jobs in local government.
He will oversee a budget of around £3 billion per year.
But who is the man set to succeed Sir Albert Bore as the leader of Birmingham City Council?
He spent a single term as councillor for Hodge Hill in 2002-2006 and returned to the city council in 2011 representing Quinton ward
He spent much of his career as a secondary school teacher and also spent five years as a visiting lecturer at the University of Birmingham business school.
Clancy is a keen darts fan and hit headlines for launching a campaign to preserve dart boards in Birmingham pubs.
He has been an outspoken critic of outgoing leader Sir Albert Bore, challenging him a previous four times for the party leadership.
Clancy tweeted his delight at winning the vote earlier this morning.
