How hurricane Kate will cause disruption across the Midlands
It will be a wet and windy afternoon across the Midlands as the remnants of Ex Hurricane Kate throws in extensive heavy rain for some.
A yellow warning has been issued by the Met Office covering the Derbyshire hills, where rainfall totals could reach 100mm over the next 24 hours. This band of wet weather will gradually sweep eastwards through the course of the day, with the chance of disruption and some surface flooding as the downpours fall on already saturated ground.
It will be chilly for a time too, but warming up by the end of the day. In fact, overnight temperatures will be unseasonably mild for those staying out late. The tropical southwesterly air is also courtesy of Ex Hurricane Kate, resulting in minimum temperatures even warmer than the usual daytime temperatures for this time of year at 10-12C. It will slowly dry up in the south this evening, with further outbreaks of rain further north. Blustery for all though, with wind speeds nearing gale force.
The second half of the weekend brings somewhat drier conditions for most, although still with the risk of some soggy spells. Light, patchy rain and drizzle more the order of the day for Sunday as we sit nestled beneath a thick slice of cloud overhead. The gusty winds will ease a little but it remains remarkably mild for the middle of November with highs of 15C.
The new week brings further unsettled weather across the central region with another band of rain by Monday evening.
