A 59-year-old from Nottinghamshire has set his sights on reclaiming his record as the oldest professional boxer in the world when he fights next month.

Steve Ward first won the title in 2011 but was beaten by an older American fighter in February this year.

After a narrow defeat on points at at the end of last year Steve decided to hang up his gloves for good. But now he's coming out of retirement again to bring the record back home.

To say he is back in training wouldn't be quite accurate - he has never stopped - but the intensity of his work has increased.

He will top the bill against a man 24 years his junior on 12 December.

In Mansfield they call Steve Ward 'The Legend' - and he still draws a crowd. Tickets were completely sold out within two weeks of the fight being announced.

In order to get his full professional licence back Steve has had to prove his fitness by undergoing a full day of extensive medical tests including a brain scan. He passed with flying colours.

The first time Steve Ward stepped into a ring was more than 50 years ago - but he says come fight night he will be the fittest he has ever been. A real chance of landing a knock-out blow and retaining his title.
