A man from Shropshire has been left with potentially "life changing injuries" after a shotgun he was carrying accidentally went off.

He was carrying out a check on livestock in a fairly remote area of the county and injured his hand quite badly when his shotgun accidentally discharged.

There was no mobile telephone signal in the area and so the man bravely made his way to his vehicle and drove to Bridgnorth Police Station.

On arrival, the extent of the man's injuries were immediately apparent so police called for an ambulance.

The man's concerns were that the shotgun should be made safe, which was why he had made for the Police Station, rather than a hospital.

The weapon was removed from his vehicle and made safe as soon as possible. Paramedics arrived and swiftly assessed the man's injuries and transported him to hospital.

While his hand had suffered a serious injury he was soon stabilised and the injury was not life threatening, but it did have the potential to be life changing.
