Princess Royal opens new multimillion pound Army headquarters in Stafford
The completion of a multimillion redevelopment to MOD Stafford was marked with a royal visit today.
The Princess Royal today visited the site which has undergone work costing £150million to redevelop the site for soldiers and their families.
The Princess was visiting Beacon Barracks for the first time since it welcomed more than 1,000 troops from 1st and 16th Signal Regiments, who recently moved from Germany.
It was only her second visit to the Staffordshire military base in her role as Colonel-In-Chief of the Corps since 1982.
During the visit HRH officially opened and unveiled a plaque to the new Regimental Headquarters of 1st Signal Regiment and also officially opened the new MOD Stafford Combined Mess.
She also presented medals to seven soldiers including four who served in Sierra Leonne as part of the MOD’s support to the country following the outbreak of the Ebola virus.
