Alfreton Tornado: a year on
This time last year residents in Alfreton were counting the cost after a tornado ripped through their town. The clean-up operation was well underway and it was thought a house which lost its roof would have to be demolished.
Pictures posted to Twitter by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service showed roofs torn from houses, gardens ripped up and debris lying in the streets after strong winds. The worst affected streets were Catherine Street and Mansfield Road.
Met Office radar images from around the time showed a band of low pressure moving across the region.
Local residents praised the support of the community after the tornado caused thousands of pounds of damage.
