Pizza delivery driver jailed after jumping four red lights to impress bosses
A pizza delivery driver from Birmingham has been jailed after racing through four red traffic lights as he tried to impress bosses into giving him a job.
Rizwan Tasib, 27, was jailed for 15 months by a judge who branded him a ‘menace on the road’ and a ‘death waiting to happen.’
He was also banned from driving for five years after he previously admitted aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and possessing drugs.
Tasib, of Stechford Lane, Ward End, had been followed along Bromford Road on 24 August by an off duty police officer who had been “shocked” by his driving.
Patrick Sullivan, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said at one junction, two other vehicles had to take evasive action to avoid an “inevitable collision” before the defendant stopped at a pizza shop.
Mr Sullivan said cocaine was later found concealed on the defendant who told officers he had a cocaine problem, spending £100 a week on the drug.
He said Tasib, who was employed as a sub-contractor with Jaguar Land Rover, had only been driving just above the speed limit and that no collision had occurred.
