Tory councillor apologises over Coventry bus tweet
A Tory councillor has received a massive backlash after saying the England rugby team should be sent on a bus to Coventry, hours after a devastating crash killed two people.
Councillor Stephen Speak, Conservative councillor for Richmond, tweeted “I’m diverting England bus to Coventry” after England lost in the group stages of the World Cup to Australia on Saturday.
The tweet was sent hours after a seven-year-old boy and a woman, believed to be her 70s, lost their lives when a bus smashed into the side of Sainsbury's on Trinity Street.
He has since deleted the tweet and apologised, saying he was not aware of the crash at the time.
