Alton Towers has denied rumours that the Smiler ride will soon reopen.

Four people were seriously injured in June when a carriage carrying 16 people slammed into an empty one.

Videos of empty cars running on the Smiler have been uploaded on social media, fuelling speculation the ride would reopen in time for the Halloween-themed Scarefest, but the park has said the tests are only forming part of their investigation into the crash.

A spokeswoman for Alton Towers said it "hasn't made a decision yet" on when the ride will reopen.
