Teenager to join the British Army on his 18th birthday

A teenager from Coventry will temporarily become the youngest soldier in the British Army when he signs up on his 18th birthday.

Macauley Cartridge from Wood End, has long dreamed of a career in the Army and after becoming inspired by members of his family, will attest tomorrow.

Macauley's grandfathers Jack Cartridge and William Yerbury, both died before he was born yet each served in a World War

His mother-in-law June Wadsworth, from Walsgrave, Coventry, also saw active duty when she was out in Flaklands War with with the Military Advisory Team.

Macauley has been an Army Cadet for the past five years and has worked his way up the ranks to Sergeant with the Fusiliers at Westfield House Platoon in Radford Road.

The former Grace Academy and Henley College student will enrol as a Private with 159 Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps.
