Former West Brom striker Lee Hughes has joined National League North club Worcester City, at the age of 39.

His move to City, who play at the home of Kidderminster Harriers, Aggborough, is where Hughes started his career 20 years ago back in 1995 before moving on to the Baggies.

His biggest career move came when he joined Coventry for £5m in 2001, but returned to The Hawthorns to help them win promotion to the Premier League in 2002.

Hughes was sent to prison in August 2004 for causing death by dangerous driving and after three years out of action, he returned to play in the lower reaches of the Football League.

The 39-year-old still boasts a prolific scoring record having enjoyed spells at Oldham, Notts County and Port Vale before dropping down to the Conference with Forest Green in January last year.

Hughes was playing for Northern Premier League side Ilkeston Town, but has now joined Worcester who are second bottom of National League North, having picked up just four points from their first seven games.
