Ten Midlands-based players make Rugby World Cup Squad

Ten players from Midlands teams have been named in the England Rugby World Cup squad, which starts next month.

Eight forwards and two backs from the region were named today by head coach Stuart Lancaster.

Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers both had three players named in the squad, while Wasps, now based in Coventry, and Gloucester both had two players selected.

The ten Midlands players named in the England squad were:

  • Kieran Brookes (Northampton Saints),

  • Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers)

  • Tom Youngs (Leicester Tigers),

  • Joe Launchbury (Wasps)

  • Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints)

  • James Haskell (Wasps)

  • Ben Morgan (Gloucester)

  • Tom Wood (Northampton Saints)

  • Ben Youngs (Leicester Tigers)

  • Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby)

Northampton's Alex Corbisiero and Luther Burrell were among the big names to miss out on selection.
