Police have released dramatic footage of a stand-off between two people and armed officers in Birmingham following reports the pair had a firearm.

CCTV footage has shown two people, one with what turned out to be a toy gun, walking down Newman Road in Birmingham.

The pair were approached by armed officers following a 999 call by a member of the public.

One of the individuals produces a BB gun and throws it to the floor, causing the armed policemen to draw their own weapons.

It was later discovered that the boy who produced the gun was just 16-years-old.

Police who attended the incident said the teenager was "two millimeters" away from being shot.
