Nottingham's tram network: Timeline of events from 2004 - 2015
March 2004 - Trams returned to Nottingham after a 68 year absence. The tram route took nearly four years to complete at a cost of £200 million.
October 2006 - Nottingham was told it is to get two new tram lines thanks to £450 million of government money.
February 2007 - County Councillors vote in favour of buying land to continue the next phase of the new tram system.
June 2009 - Nottingham's tram network picked up its 50 millionth passenger - five years since the service was launched.
November 2010 - The Government confirmed that funding for the extension of Nottingham's tram system will go ahead, despite austerity measures.
December 2011 - Plans for two new tram lines in Nottingham get given the go ahead.
January 2012 - Work begins to extend Nottingham's tram service.
March 2012 - Nottingham's controversial workplace parking levy comes into force. The city council says the money will help to pay for the two new tram routes.
July 2013 - Residents and business owners say their lives are being blighted by the noise and inconvenience caused by the building of the new tram service in Nottingham. Some retailers say the upheaval is damaging trade.
September 2013 - The first of 23 trams which will run on the new lines being built to Clifton and Toton are unveiled.
June 2014 - Opening of Phase Two tram network delayed. Contractors say the project has been hit by unforeseen hold ups.
December 2014 - Phase Two of Nottingham's new tram network was supposed to open to the public. A series of delays announced in June meant the opening is now delayed until spring 2015.
February 2015 - Testing on the Phase Two line gets underway.
June 2015 - Media invited for a ride along one of the two new Phase Two tram lines.
August 2015 - Nottingham's Phase Two tram network officially opens.
