A Daventry underpass has been transformed with colourful murals by volunteers as part of a community street art project.

More than 30 volunteers, including young people and staff from the Phoenix Youth Centre and residents from the local community, worked together to decorate the Yeomanry Way underpass on The Grange Estate.

The makeover, which took place on Monday and Tuesday this week, was organised by the Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership as part of its Street Art Project.

Residents of the Grange community who regularly carry out community clean-ups suggested where the mural should be done.

The theme for the mural focuses around The Grange as a place to live and encourages residents to take pride in their community.

The street art project was launched last summer with the creation of a mural on the wall next to the skate park in the New Street Recreation Ground. Local nursery children also got involved in creating a poppy-themed mural to commemorate the First World War centenary.

The street art initiative runs alongside Northamptonshire Police’s Operation Illustration and the latest mural follows a presentation in Daventry last month that aimed to educate young people about graffiti.
