Take a closer look inside a vintage ambulance
The way the ambulance service operated in the 1950's was certainly a far cry from what we expect today.
By the first World War, small trucks were being used to transport patients to hospital but these services were being run by local charities, such as the Red Cross.
Our reporter Nancy Cole has been taking a look inside one:
Ambulances like this one didn't tend to carry a great deal of equipment on board.
Inside the small vehicles would have been an oxygen bottle, a few stretchers, a bed for transporting patients and some bandages.
But an ambulance like this one was not expected to do remedial work on the scene, unlike the rapid response vehicles we are used to today.
