Leicestershire Police has confirmed to ITV News Central that it conducted a trial scheme where the force limited its response to attempted burglaries at homes with an odd number.
The trial involved scenes of crime officers attending reports of attempted burglaries at even-numbered houses only.
The force says the pilot was one way for it look at ways to cut costs. It was carried out between March and May this year.
Leicestershire Police has issued the following statement as a response to the claims:
Leicestershire's Deputy Chief Constable Roger Bannister said the pilot was just one piece of a whole programme of research to help develop the most cost effective policing model to protect the public.
