The collision happened just after 2.05pm in Burney Lane in Ward End with two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle sent to the scene.

The 68-year-old pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but was later pronounced dead.

The car involved in the incident, a white Fiat Marea, did not stop at the scene and was later found abandoned in Old Moat Way, Ward End, with front end damage and a shattered windscreen. It will now be forensically examined for clues to help identify the driver.
