A lorry driver has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 14 years formurdering his wife at their home in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Iain Montgomery was jailed at Stafford Crown Court after admitting killing hairdresser Tina Montgomery, 50, in January this year.

Evidence of the murder came from a camera inside Montgomery's lorry, which showed him throwing away a blood-stained rolling pin that he had used to murder his wife.

He had used four weapons to kill her, including a kettle, a rolling-pin, a knife and another bladed instrument which has never been found.

A post-mortem examination showed Mrs Montgomery had been stabbed multiple times and suffered at least 40 blows.

The Recorder of Stafford Judge Michael Chambers QC said the attack was "brutal and prolonged" and had been triggered by "an extreme and violent explosion of temper".

Montgomery pleaded guilty to the murder at an earlier hearing but has never explained his motive.

In court, members of Mrs Montgomery's family looked on from the public gallery.

There was an outburst as he was sentenced, but Montgomery made no response.
