Lightning strike causes house fire in Leicestershire

A lightning strike during last night's storms caused a house fire in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Fire Service has told ITV News that they were called to a house fire on the corner of Farnham Street and Barrow Road in Quorn, near Loughborough, at just after 2.30am.

They found a fire in a first-floor bedroom, and managed to put it out before it could spread to other parts of the house or nearby properties. But the bedroom itself was severely damaged.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which was caused by a lightning strike.

Overall, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended five call-outs last nights following reports of lightning strikes.
