Many budding scientists dream of launching their own rocket into space, but two schoolboys from the Midlands decided to send their favourite teddy bear instead.

Oscar and Dylan Rees were given the project by their father as something to do and, not only did they succeed in helping the bear to boldly go, they caught it all on camera.

The family strapped the teddy to a polystyrene case which they attached to a weather balloon and a parachute, before adding heat packs, a mobile phone with GPS, a camera and a compact mirror.

After lift-off, they had an anxious wait for scheduled text messages from the phone which would give them the bear's location.

Two days after the launch, a relieved Oscar and Dylan travelled 62 miles away to Kimbolton in Northamptonshire, where their bear had touched down in a farmer's field.
