Alton Towers victim posts first photo since accident
Alton Towers victim Vicky Balch has posted a picture of herself for the first time since having part of her right leg amputated. She is shown posing alongside Afghanistan veteran Kate Philp from Worcestershire, who lost a leg herself while serving in the Army.
Ms Balch posted the photo on Tuesday, the first time she has published a photo on Twitter since the accident last month.
She described how she felt 'inspired' by meeting Major Philps, who she described as a 'very amazing woman'.
Ms Balch had to go through seven stages of surgery in an attempt to save her leg, but ultimately had to undergo an amputation from the knee down.
Fellow victim Leah Washington also had to have her leg amputated following the accident.
Worcestershire-born Major Kate Philps was severely injured in Afghanistan whilst serving in the army, resulting in a leg amputation.
Last July, she travelled to the Antarctic for a Walking with the Wounded charity expedition which Prince Harry was also taking part in.
