Teenager comforts woman despite losing three family members in Tunisia attack
Owen Richards, from Wednesbury in the West Midlands has been praised for his actions after he comforted a victim of the Tunisia beach attack, despite losing three members of his family just moments before.
The 16-year-old was also injured in the attack on the beach in the resort of El Kantaoui near Sousse when a bullet which killed his uncle, Adrian Evans, grazed his shoulder.
Owen is the younger brother of Joel Richards the 19-year-old referee from Walsall, who was yesterday confirmed to have died in the terrorist attack.
His 78-year-old grandfather Patrick Evans was also confirmed to be among the 15 Britons who died.
Reports say that Owen proceeded to comfort a woman outside a hotel after running away from the beach.
Doctors at the scene praised the teenager for his heroic actions and for taking the decision to risk his own life to comfort the woman.
Yesterday Owen’s mother, Suzanne Richards, from Wednesbury in the West Midlands flew to Tunisia to be with her son.
A JustGiving page has page has been set up by the Darren Wright Foundation which aims to raise £500 for Owen and show him "support and love to a great individual at this sad time."
