Riding for the disabled pioneer awarded in Queen's Birthday Honours list

A Nottinghamshire woman who helped set up the first Riding for the Disabled (RDA) group has been awarded in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Anita Parker, 85, has received the British Empire Medal for Services to People with Disabilities.

She recognised the therapeutic value of horse riding almost 10 years before charity was formed.

In 1967 she helped set up the first RDA group at Woodside Farm stables in Rainworth, near Mansfield.

Anita's vision means that any disabled child who can enjoy the benefits of riding, whatever their physical, sensory or learning impairment.
